Customized Milton Massachusetts Tutoring Lessons with the Commonwealth Learning Center
Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) stands apart from other tutoring centers. We work separately with each client one-on-one to provide them with customized attention, in contrast to other tutoring centers that teach learners in groups. We believe that every client comes to CLC with their own specific challenges and learning goals. From elementary school through adulthood, our students are given the assistance they really need in a patient, caring environment.
We’re the ideal solution for individuals who need a little extra help getting over obstacles to those with learning disabilities. Our programs and teaching methods are designed to address clients with learning disabilities that include non-verbal learning disabilities, language-based learning disabilities, executive function difficulties, dyslexia, and ADHD. Our teachers are highly experienced, with advanced degrees in special education, math, and reading.
Our 4 main areas of focus are as follows:
Your First Step at the CLC: Educational Evaluations/Assessments
We believe that early intervention is crucial to help a child succeed in school as well as the rest of the life which is why CLC offers educational assessments that can help uncover a learning challenge or effective learning style. Our assessments can help change a student’s experience of life by making it fun and easy for them to learn where previously they struggled.
All new clients receive a free consultation with the CLC director. It includes going over their scholastic history and performance. Discovering each student’s strengths and challenges allows us to create a personalized strategy just for them.
Each student and parent receives a testing report after the evaluation that highlights areas that need improvement and which of our methods will best help remedy them.
Our Milton Reading Tutoring Program
Learning to read can be one of the toughest things for a young student to grasp. We help students in the Milton Massachusetts area become stronger readers thanks to our many accredited programs that have been proven to help master reading skills. All of them can treat conditions that inhibit reading, such as dyslexia. These include the following:
-
The Orton-Gillingham Program
This program is a great choice for learners who have a hard time matching sounds with associated letters and who often pause when trying to get through a sentence. It’s a phonetically based program that teaches students the basic building blocks of the English language and then builds from there.
-
Wilson Reading System
This reading and writing program guides students who have a hard time with spelling through a 12-step process so they can eventually read standalone words. The steps of this program are a bit more involved than Orton-Gillingham and stress repetitiveness to help students remember what they’ve just earned. The program is effective because students study the current reading and writing concepts being taught to make sure they can retain them before the instructor advances them to the following level.
-
Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program
Referred to as LiPS, this phonetically based program enables students to learn how to articulate words properly before actually writing them. It shows students how proper use of the lips, tongue, and mouth forms the basics of letters and words.
-
About The Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program
This program helps students cultivate mental imagery as they read and hear words. This strengthens their academic ability across all courses of study, not just reading and writing.

We Help Milton Students with Math Tutoring
From basic math through advanced concepts including calculus, we help students be their best at the subject with the help of various teaching techniques. We have math programs for all levels that help students “see” the solution visually. All students create their own math solutions book of formulas that help them retain and remember mathematical concepts.
For younger students, our TouchMath program uses a multisensory approach that shows kids to count and touch TouchPoints to add, subtract, and multiply numbers.
We Help Milton Students With All Kinds of Test Preparation
We realize that sitting for any test is daunting enough for most Milton MA students, and even more so when it’s an exam needed for college or private high school entrance. Students preparing to take the PSAT, SSAT, MCAS, SAT, or other exams will be fully prepared for them thanks to our one-on-one teaching approach. We know how to get students ready for the difficult questions in these examinations because we’ve studied them ourselves.
We also help adult clients prepare for their GED exam so they can obtain high school completion, which will help them open up more job opportunities.
There’s Numerous Reasons in Milton Massachusetts to Select CLC Tutoring
We stand out by offering many convenient amenities including ample parking at our locations. r facilities offer the most modern computer models and equipment in a modern-day setting. We provide all students with secluded, quiet work areas so they won’t be distracted.
All CLC educators undergo background checks and we use both part-time and full-time specialists. Multisensory programs are one of our specialties.
In some instances, students may qualify for financial aid for tutoring. If a client has a sibling, they receive a 10% tuition discount. We do not lock our students into contracts; they simply visit the CLC for as long as they need our help.

ADD vs ADHD: Is There a Difference?
ADD and ADHD are two terms that many people easily confuse. Don’t they mean the same thing?
Yes and no. At one time, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were two slightly different diagnoses. ADD in children was defined by symptoms that didn’t include hyperactivity, but being more withdrawn, “spacey”, and having a hard time focusing and listening to instructions. ADHD in kids, on the other hand, was defined by having an abundance of energy, talking incessantly, and demonstrating “bouncing off the walls” behavior.
Today, however, ADD is considered an outdated term while ADHD is the medically recognized name for any behavior that indicates an inability to focus, whether the child is “hyper” or not. So, attention deficit disorder in children really falls under the umbrella of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. But your children’s doctor may still use ADD or ADHD to describe your child’s specific condition. They may still prefer to give an ADD diagnosis or an ADHD diagnosis to avoid confusion.
Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Milton Kids
So, will your doctor conduct an ADD symptoms test or ADHD assessment for your child to determine if they have either? Believe it or not, there’s no single test to diagnose ADD or ADHD. Your child’s doctor will instead interview you, your child’s teachers, relatives, and other adults they come into regular contact with to determine if their symptoms are in line with ADD or ADHD. They’ll use standard guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) when making the diagnosis. Your child will also have their vision and hearing checked and receive a full physical exam to rule out any other medical conditions that may be causing symptoms similar to that of ADD and ADHD.
If your child is diagnosed with either, it’s important to let their educators know so they can work with them and make recommendations to you to help improve their focus in the classroom.
