We deeply acknowledge that every student arriving at CLC possesses distinct challenges and educational objectives. Our nurturing and patient atmosphere caters to learners of all ages, ranging from kindergarten to adulthood.
Irrespective of the hurdles a student may encounter, whether it involves overcoming curriculum obstacles or handling a learning difference, our programs and instructional methods deliver the ideal remedy. Our educators boast extensive expertise and hold advanced degrees in special education, mathematics, and reading.
Our Services Encompass Four Core Areas:
Educational Assessments for Rhode Island Students
We endorse early intervention to address any learning hurdles and steer students toward academic and life triumphs. Our assessments possess the potential to revolutionize students’ lives by enabling them to grasp concepts that were once elusive.
Every new student embarks with a complimentary consultation with our CLC director. During this consultation, we meticulously review the student’s academic history and performance. Once we comprehend their strengths and weaknesses, we forge a bespoke educational plan tailored to their precise needs.
Post-assessment, each student and parent receive a comprehensive testing report outlining areas warranting improvement and delineating the recommended strategies to tackle them.
Supporting Rhode Island Students with Reading
Fostering robust reading skills can prove challenging for young learners. At CLC, we foster enhanced literacy capabilities in Rhode Island through our accredited programs, proven to amplify reading proficiencies. These programs are meticulously designed to assist students contending with dyslexia and other reading-associated difficulties. Our reading programs encompass:
-
-
Exploring Orton-Gillingham
Orton-Gillingham stands as an excellent choice for learners grappling with linking sounds to letters and encountering reading pauses. This phonetically-rooted program imparts the fundamental cornerstones of the English language and expands from there.
-
Introducing the Wilson Reading System
The Wilson Reading System, a 12-step program centering on reading and writing, benefits students challenged by spelling and reading words devoid of contextual cues. This program builds upon previously learned concepts, fortifying basics before progressing.
-
Understanding the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program
LiPS, also known as the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program, aids students grappling with processing individual sounds within words. It instructs them in enunciating words, empowering effective writing and reading. Practitioners of this program demonstrate the formation of specific letters and words through lip, mouth, and tongue movements.
-
Discovering the Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program
The Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program assists learners in constructing mental images while reading and writing. Through a visual approach, this program enhances academic aptitude across diverse subjects, extending beyond reading and writing alone.

Distinguishing Between ADD and ADHD
ADD and ADHD are terms that frequently induce confusion. Are they synonymous?
The answer is both affirmative and negative. In the past, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were distinct diagnoses. ADD in children referred to symptoms devoid of hyperactivity, encompassing withdrawal, spaciness, difficulty concentrating, and challenges with instructions. Conversely, ADHD in children manifests as excessive energy, incessant talking, and hyperactive behavior.
However, today ADD is an obsolete term, and ADHD is the acknowledged nomenclature for any indication of focus deficiency, irrespective of hyperactivity. Consequently, attention deficit disorder in children falls under the umbrella of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Nevertheless, some medical professionals might still employ ADD or ADHD to elucidate a child’s precise condition, circumventing ambiguity.
Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Rhode Island Children
Contrary to popular belief, no single test exists for diagnosing ADD or ADHD. Physicians instead rely on interviews with parents, teachers, relatives, and other adults interacting frequently with the child to assess whether their symptoms align with ADD or ADHD. Established guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) inform the diagnosis. Moreover, visual and auditory tests are administered, alongside a comprehensive physical examination to eliminate other medical conditions that might exhibit symptoms akin to ADD and ADHD.
If your child receives a diagnosis of either condition, it’s imperative to apprise their educators, enabling them to provide apt support and recommendations for enhancing focus within the classroom.
