Our Services Cover Four Core Areas:
Educational Assessments for Western Massachusetts Students
We advocate for early intervention to tackle learning hurdles and guide students toward academic and life success. Our assessments have the potential to transform students’ lives by helping them grasp concepts that were once challenging. Each new student begins with a complimentary consultation with our CLC director. During this consultation, we meticulously review the student’s academic history and performance. Once we understand their strengths and weaknesses, we create a customized educational plan tailored to their specific needs. After the assessment, each student and their parents receive a comprehensive testing report outlining areas that need improvement and detailing the recommended strategies to address them.
Supporting Western Massachusetts Students with Reading
Building strong reading skills can be a challenge for young learners. At CLC, we enhance literacy skills in Western Massachusetts through our accredited programs, proven to boost reading proficiency. These programs are carefully designed to assist students dealing with dyslexia and other reading-related difficulties. Our reading programs include:
-
-
Exploring Orton-Gillingham
Orton-Gillingham is an excellent choice for learners struggling with connecting sounds to letters and encountering reading pauses. This phonetically-rooted program teaches the fundamental building blocks of the English language and expands from there.
-
Introducing the Wilson Reading System
The Wilson Reading System, a 12-step program focused on reading and writing, benefits students challenged by spelling and reading words without contextual cues. This program builds upon previously learned concepts, strengthening the fundamentals before advancing.
-
Understanding the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program
The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program, also known as LiPS, assists students in processing individual sounds within words. It teaches them how to pronounce words, enhancing effective writing and reading. Practitioners of this program demonstrate the formation of specific letters and words through lip, mouth, and tongue movements.
-
Discovering the Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program
The Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program helps learners construct mental images while reading and writing. Through a visual approach, this program enhances academic aptitude across diverse subjects, extending beyond reading and writing alone.

Understanding ADD and ADHD in Western Massachusetts
ADD and ADHD are terms that can often lead to confusion. Are they the same?
The answer is both yes and no. In the past, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were distinct diagnoses. ADD in children referred to symptoms without hyperactivity, including withdrawal, spaciness, difficulty concentrating, and challenges with instructions. Conversely, ADHD in children involves excessive energy, constant talking, and hyperactive behavior.
However, today ADD is an outdated term, and ADHD is the recognized term for any indication of attention deficit, whether or not hyperactivity is present. Therefore, attention deficit disorder in children falls under the umbrella of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Nonetheless, some medical professionals may still use ADD or ADHD to describe a child’s specific condition, avoiding ambiguity.
Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Western Massachusetts Children
Contrary to popular belief, there is no single test for diagnosing ADD or ADHD. Physicians rely on interviews with parents, teachers, relatives, and other adults who frequently interact with the child to assess whether their symptoms align with ADD or ADHD. Established guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) inform the diagnosis. Visual and auditory tests are also administered, along with a comprehensive physical examination to rule out other medical conditions that may exhibit symptoms similar to ADD and ADHD. If your child receives a diagnosis of either condition, it’s essential to inform their educators, enabling them to provide appropriate support and recommendations for improving focus in the classroom.
