Recognizing that each student faces distinct challenges and possesses individual learning goals, we tailor our approach to cater to their unique needs. From elementary school through adulthood, our compassionate and patient approach supports students of all ages.

Our instructors are highly qualified, often holding advanced degrees in special education, mathematics, and reading, and they possess certifications to guide students facing learning hurdles.
Our primary areas of focus encompass:
Comprehensive Educational Evaluations/Assessments
At CLC, we emphasize early intervention to help students overcome learning obstacles and set them on a path to academic and lifelong success. Our assessments are designed to make learning enjoyable and accessible for students who have previously struggled.
For all new students, we offer a complimentary consultation with the CLC director, involving a comprehensive review of their academic history and past examinations. This initial assessment allows us to pinpoint each student’s strengths and weaknesses and tailor an individualized teaching plan specifically for them.
Following the evaluation, both the student and their parents will receive a comprehensive testing report outlining areas requiring improvement and our recommended programs and methods for enhancement.
Reading Assistance in Lexington

Orton-Gillingham
Ideal for students who struggle with sound-letter correspondence and encounter difficulties when reading sentences, this phonetically-based program instills the fundamental principles of the English language before progressing further.
-
Wilson Reading System
A 12-step reading and writing program, Wilson benefits students grappling with spelling and difficulty reading words in isolation. It goes beyond the basics of Orton-Gillingham and emphasizes repetition to solidify learning. Students review and reinforce previous lessons before advancing, ensuring their reading and writing success.
-
Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program (LiPS)
LiPS is a robust phonetic program that helps students grasp proper pronunciation before delving into writing. It teaches students how the proper use of the lips, tongue, and mouth generates the basic building blocks of letters and words.
-
Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

ADD vs ADHD: Clarifying the Distinction
ADD and ADHD are often terms that cause confusion. Are they interchangeable?
The answer is both yes and no. At one point, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were distinct diagnoses. ADD, specifically in children, was characterized by symptoms such as inattentiveness, spaciness, and difficulty focusing on instructions, without hyperactivity. Conversely, ADHD in children was defined by hyperactivity, excessive talking, and overly energetic behavior.
Today, ADD is considered an outdated term, with ADHD being the medically recognized classification encompassing all behaviors indicating an inability to focus, regardless of hyperactivity. However, some healthcare providers may still use ADD or ADHD to describe specific conditions, opting for one term over the other to avoid confusion.
Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Lexington Kids
Conducting an ADD symptoms test or ADHD assessment to diagnose a child is not as straightforward as a single exam. Rather, it involves a comprehensive process. Healthcare providers will interview parents, teachers, relatives, and other adults who interact regularly with the child to assess their symptoms in relation to ADD or ADHD. Standard guidelines from esteemed organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) serve as the basis for diagnosis. Additionally, children will undergo vision and hearing tests and receive a thorough physical examination to rule out other medical conditions with symptoms resembling ADD or ADHD.
Upon diagnosis, it is crucial to inform educators to facilitate effective support strategies and recommendations for improving the child’s focus in the classroom.
