Our instructors, often holding advanced degrees in special education, math, and reading, are highly qualified to instruct students facing learning obstacles.
Here are the top four services we specialize in:
Your First Step at CLC: Educational Evaluations/Assessments
Our team emphasizes early intervention to ensure a student’s success in school and beyond. That’s why CLC offers educational assessments that help uncover learning challenges or effective learning styles. These assessments can transform a student’s learning experience, making it enjoyable and accessible.
All new students and their parents receive a complimentary consultation with the CLC director, including a review of past exams and academic history. Understanding each student’s strengths and weaknesses enables us to create a personalized approach for them.
Following the evaluation, each student and parent receives a testing report highlighting areas that need improvement and the methods that will best address them.
Reading Tutoring in Westfield
Learning to read can be a significant challenge for young students. In Westfield, MA, we foster improved literacy skills through our accredited programs, proven to enhance reading abilities and address conditions like dyslexia. Our reading programs include:
-
Orton-Gillingham
This program is ideal for students who struggle to match sounds with associated letters and may pause when reading sentences. It is a phonetically based program that teaches the fundamentals of the English language before progressing further.
-
Wilson Reading System
A 12-step reading and writing program, Wilson benefits students grappling with spelling and difficulty reading words in isolation. It goes beyond the basics of Orton-Gillingham and emphasizes repetition to solidify learning. Students review and reinforce previous lessons before advancing, ensuring their reading and writing success.
-
Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program (LiPS)
LiPS is a robust phonetic program that helps students grasp proper pronunciation before delving into writing. It teaches students how the proper use of the lips, tongue, and mouth generates the basic building blocks of letters and words.
-
Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program
This program cultivates mental imagery as students read and hear words, enhancing their academic performance across various fields of study, including reading and writing.

ADD vs ADHD: Is There a Difference?
ADD and ADHD are terms often used interchangeably, but there are distinctions. While ADD (attention deficit disorder) once referred to individuals who were withdrawn, spacey, and struggled with focus and listening without hyperactivity, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) included those with excessive energy, talkativeness, and hyperactive behavior. Today, ADHD is the recognized term encompassing all attention-related disorders.
Despite the terminology, our team is equipped to support students with attention difficulties, whether hyperactive or not. Our programs are tailored to address their unique needs.
Diagnosing Attention Difficulties in Westfield
Diagnosing attention difficulties involves comprehensive evaluation. Rather than relying on a single test, your child’s doctor will conduct interviews with you, teachers, relatives, and other adults regularly in contact with the student. Standard guidelines from organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychiatric Association inform the diagnosis. A comprehensive assessment may include vision and hearing checks and a full physical examination to rule out other underlying medical conditions.
Upon diagnosis, it is crucial to inform educators, enabling them to provide targeted support and recommendations to enhance the student’s focus in the classroom.
