Individualized New Hampshire Tutoring Lessons at the Commonwealth Learning Center
Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) stands out as a distinctive tutoring center in New Hampshire. While many tutoring services rely on group settings, we focus on providing individualized, one-on-one attention. We recognize that each client at CLC faces unique challenges and educational goals. Our supportive and patient environment accommodates students of all ages, from kindergarten through adulthood.
Whether a student is encountering curriculum difficulties or has a learning disability, our programs and teaching approach are designed to offer effective solutions. We address a variety of learning challenges, including non-verbal learning disabilities, ADHD, executive function difficulties, dyslexia, and language-based learning disabilities. Our highly qualified educators, with advanced degrees in special education, math, and reading, are dedicated to meeting diverse learning needs.
We Specialize in Four Key Areas:
Educational Assessments at CLC
We believe in the importance of early intervention to address learning difficulties and support students toward academic and life success. Our assessments can profoundly impact a student’s experience by helping them understand concepts that previously seemed difficult.
Every new student starts with a complimentary consultation with our CLC director, who reviews their academic history and performance. By identifying each student’s strengths and weaknesses, we create a personalized education plan tailored to their specific needs.
After the evaluation, both the student and their parent receive a detailed testing report that highlights areas needing improvement and suggests suitable methods for addressing them.
Our Tutors Help New Hampshire Students with Reading
Developing strong reading skills can be challenging for young learners. At CLC, we enhance literacy skills in New Hampshire through accredited programs with proven success in improving reading abilities. These programs are particularly effective for addressing dyslexia and other reading difficulties. Our reading programs include:
-
Orton-Gillingham Program
This program is well-suited for students struggling to connect sounds with letters and often pause while reading sentences. It uses a phonetic approach to introduce students to the foundational elements of the English language and gradually builds upon that foundation.
-
Wilson Reading System
The Wilson program is a 12-step reading and writing system designed for students who struggle with spelling and need support to read words independently. It builds on concepts introduced in Orton-Gillingham and reinforces fundamental skills through repetition. Students progress to the next level only after mastering the previous one, making it a highly effective approach.
-
Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program (LiPS)
LiPS helps students who have trouble processing individual sounds in words by teaching them proper articulation, which enhances their reading and writing skills. This program emphasizes how the lips, mouth, and tongue contribute to forming letters and words.
-
Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program
This visual-based program aids learners in developing mental imagery while reading and writing. It enhances their overall academic abilities, extending beyond just reading and writing skills.
Math Tutoring in New Hampshire
Our math tutoring services support students of all ages and skill levels, helping them achieve their highest potential in mathematics. Whether they are learning basic arithmetic or tackling high school math, we offer programs suitable for all levels. Our methods emphasize visual problem-solving techniques, and we encourage students to document math formulas and solutions to improve their retention.
For younger students, our TouchMath program uses a multisensory approach, helping children to “touch” numbers to understand addition, subtraction, and multiplication concepts more effectively.

We also offer support for adult students preparing for the GED exam, helping them improve their job prospects and complete their high school education.

ADD vs ADHD: Are They Different?
ADD and ADHD are terms that are often misunderstood. Do they mean the same thing?
The answer is both yes and no. Historically, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were separate diagnoses. ADD refers to symptoms without hyperactivity, such as being withdrawn, spaced out, and struggling with focus and listening. Conversely, ADHD was characterized by high energy levels, excessive talking, and hyperactive behavior.
Today, ADD is considered an outdated term, with ADHD being the accepted name for any behavior indicating an inability to focus, whether or not hyperactivity is present. Attention deficit disorder in children now falls under the broader category of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, some doctors may still use ADD or ADHD to describe specific conditions to avoid confusion.
Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in New Hampshire Kids
Diagnosing ADD or ADHD does not rely on a single test. Instead, doctors gather information through interviews with parents, teachers, relatives, and other adults who regularly interact with the child to assess symptoms and determine if they match the criteria for ADD or ADHD. Diagnostic guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) are used in the diagnosis process. Additionally, the child’s vision and hearing are checked, and a comprehensive physical exam is conducted to rule out other medical conditions that might mimic ADD or ADHD symptoms.
If a child is diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, it is important to inform their educators to provide appropriate support and recommendations to improve the child’s focus in the classroom.
