Commonwealth Learning Center Provides Personalized Tutoring Services in Framingham, MA

Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) distinguishes itself as a unique tutoring center, offering individualized attention to each client, unlike other centers that rely on group instruction. We believe every student who comes to CLC has their own educational challenges and goals. Our nurturing and patient environment supports learners of all ages, from K-1 through adulthood.

We assist learners of all abilities, whether they need extra help with homework or face learning disabilities. Students with various learning challenges, such as ADHD, dyslexia, executive function difficulties, language-based learning disabilities, and non-verbal learning disabilities, find the support they need at CLC. Our tutors are highly qualified and hold advanced degrees in special education, math, and reading.

Here are the four key services we specialize in:

Educational Assessments

We firmly believe in early intervention to help students succeed academically and beyond, which is why CLC offers educational assessments designed to uncover learning difficulties or effective learning styles. These assessments can be transformative, making learning more enjoyable and accessible for students who previously struggled.

All new students begin with a complimentary consultation with our CLC director, during which their academic performance and history are thoroughly reviewed. Identifying each student’s strengths and weaknesses allows us to craft a personalized strategy tailored just for them.

Following the evaluation, students and their families receive a testing report pinpointing areas of difficulty and recommending specific programs and methods tailored to their unique needs.

Reading Tutoring in Framingham, MA

Learning to read can be a significant challenge for young students, and we’re here to help those in Framingham, Massachusetts, become confident readers through our accredited programs proven to enhance reading skills. Our programs effectively address conditions like dyslexia, enabling students to excel. Some of our reading programs include:

  • Orton-Gillingham

This program is ideal for students who may struggle to match sounds with corresponding letters and often hesitate when reading sentences. It’s a phonetically based program that introduces students to the fundamental building blocks of the English language before advancing to more complex concepts.

  • Wilson Reading System

Designed for students who struggle with spelling, this reading and writing program takes them through a 12-step process to read words independently. Building on the principles of Orton-Gillingham, this program reinforces concepts through repetition, ensuring students master each stage before progressing to the next, resulting in reading and writing success.

  • Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program

Also known as LiPS, this program aids students who struggle with processing individual sounds in words. It teaches them how to articulate words, enabling them to read and write effectively by understanding the basics of letters and words.

  • Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

Through a visual approach, this program helps students develop mental images while reading and writing, enhancing their ability to remember concepts. Students in this program not only excel in reading and writing but also across various academic subjects.

Math Tutoring in Framingham, MA

We support students of all ages and math skill levels in reaching their full potential, whether they are learning basic arithmetic or advanced pre-college math. Our unique math programs enable students at all levels to visualize solutions and formulas, enhancing their problem-solving abilities. We emphasize the importance of documenting math formulas and solutions to solidify understanding.

For younger learners, our TouchMath program incorporates a multisensory approach, allowing them to “touch” numbers while learning to add, subtract, and multiply. This hands-on method makes math more accessible and helps students build a strong foundation in mathematical concepts.

ADD vs. ADHD: Clarifying the Difference

ADD and ADHD are two terms often confused by many people. Do they refer to the same condition?

The answer is both yes and no. At one time, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were distinct diagnoses. ADD in children was characterized by symptoms like withdrawal, spaciness, and difficulty focusing without hyperactivity. On the other hand, ADHD in kids involves excessive energy, constant talking, and hyperactive behavior.

Today, ADD is considered an outdated term, and ADHD is the medically recognized name for any behavior indicating an inability to focus, whether hyperactivity is present or not. Essentially, attention deficit disorder in children falls under the umbrella of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, some doctors may still use ADD or ADHD to describe a child’s specific condition to avoid confusion.

Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Framingham, MA

When it comes to diagnosing ADD or ADHD in your child, there’s no single test. Instead, your child’s doctor will conduct interviews with you, their teachers, family members, and other adults who interact with them regularly to assess their symptoms. Diagnostic guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) will be used. Your child will also undergo vision and hearing checks and receive a thorough physical examination to rule out other medical conditions that may mimic ADD or ADHD symptoms.

If your child receives a diagnosis, it’s crucial to inform their educators so they can provide appropriate support and recommendations to improve their focus in the classroom.
