Here are the top four services we specialize in:
Your First Step at CLC: Educational Evaluations
Early intervention plays a crucial role in a child’s academic success and overall life. That’s why CLC offers educational evaluations in Hollis to determine if a student has a learning disability and to identify the most suitable learning style. These assessments can transform a student’s life by enabling them to grasp concepts that were previously elusive.
For all new clients, we provide a complimentary consultation with the CLC director, which includes a thorough review of past exams and results. This helps us identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to create a personalized teaching plan tailored to their needs.
Shortly after the evaluation, the child and their parents will receive a testing report that highlights areas of difficulty and provides recommended programs and methods for improvement.
Our Hollis Reading Tutoring Program
Developing strong literacy skills can be challenging for young students. At Hollis, we foster improved literacy skills through a selection of accredited programs proven to enhance reading abilities. Our reading programs cater to students facing difficulties such as dyslexia. Some of the reading programs we offer include:
-
About Orton-Gillingham
This program is an excellent solution for students who struggle with matching sounds to associated letters and experience hesitation when reading sentences. It is a phonetically based program that teaches students the fundamental building blocks of the English language and progresses from there.
-
The Wilson Reading System
The Wilson Reading System is a 12-step reading and writing program designed for individuals who struggle with spelling and find it challenging to read words in isolation. It goes beyond phonics and ensures comprehensive understanding of each stage before moving on, resulting in reading and writing success.
-
About The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program
Also known as LiPS, this phonetically based program helps students learn proper word articulation before transitioning to writing. Educators using this program demonstrate how the lips, tongue, and mouth form specific letters and words.
-
Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing®
This program utilizes a visual approach to help students develop mental images while reading and writing. By creating visual associations, students enhance their memory and succeed across various subjects in addition to reading and writing.
We Help Hollis Students with Math Tutoring
Our math tutoring caters to students of all ages and skill levels, whether they are learning elementary school math or high school calculus. We offer unique math programs that enable students to “see” solutions and formulas to solve problems. Additionally, we assist students in creating a solutions manual of math formulas that reinforces their understanding of concepts.
Children learn math more effectively when they have a hands-on experience with numbers. That’s why we utilize the TouchMath program, which helps them add, subtract, and multiply numerals.
We Help Hollis Students With All Types of Test Preparation
We understand that test-taking can be stressful for most students in Hollis, especially when it involves exams for college or private high school entrance. At CLC, we provide comprehensive one-on-one teaching to fully prepare students for exams such as MCAS, SAT, PSAT, SSAT, and others. Our expertise in these exams allows us to effectively guide students through the challenging questions.
We also offer test preparation for adult learners aiming to obtain their GED, opening up more job opportunities.
CLC Tutoring Provides Many Student Benefits in Hollis
At CLC, we prioritize convenience and provide various amenities, including ample parking at all our locations. Our centers feature modern computer models and equipment in a contemporary setting. Each student has access to private workspace to ensure an uninterrupted learning environment.
All CLC tutors undergo background checks, and we have both part-time and full-time specialists. Our instructors specialize in multisensory programs.
In some cases, students may qualify for financial aid for tutoring services. Additionally, if a client has a sibling, they receive a 10% tuition discount. Students are not bound by contracts and can stay with us for as long as they need guidance.

ADD vs ADHD: Is There a Difference?
ADD and ADHD are two terms that often cause confusion. Do they mean the same thing?
The answer is both yes and no. Previously, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were considered two distinct diagnoses. ADD in children referred to symptoms that did not include hyperactivity but rather withdrawal, spaciness, difficulty focusing, and listening to instructions. On the other hand, ADHD in kids was characterized by excessive energy, incessant talking, and hyperactive behavior.
Today, ADD is considered an outdated term, and ADHD is the recognized name for any behavior indicating an inability to focus, regardless of hyperactivity. Attention deficit disorder in children falls under the umbrella of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, doctors may still use ADD or ADHD to describe a child’s specific condition, depending on their preference, and to avoid confusion.
Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Hollis Kids
There is no single test to diagnose ADD or ADHD. Instead, your child’s doctor will conduct interviews with you, your child’s teachers, relatives, and other adults involved in their daily life to assess whether their symptoms align with ADD or ADHD. Standard guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) will be used for the diagnosis. Additionally, your child will undergo vision and hearing tests, as well as a comprehensive physical exam to rule out any other medical conditions that may present symptoms similar to those of ADD and ADHD.
If your child receives a diagnosis of either condition, it is crucial to inform their educators so they can provide appropriate support and make recommendations to enhance their focus in the classroom.
